Manufacturer
Makes His Fortune with Futons
Talk
about a hot item which has never cooled off. For more than
23 years John Oswalt has cranked out tri-fold foam futon
beds to the constant delight of Kobey’s shoppers.
He estimates he sells at least 15 or more futons a day at
the market.
His futons are perfect for college students who want to
furnish their dorm or crash pad affordably. They also make
great extra bedding for overnight guests or can be turned
into a spare lounge or chair. They make tent camping comfortable
and can fit in trucks or vans. After use, they are compact
enough to fit easily into a closet or under a bed.
West Coast Import & Manufacturing Company is San Diego's
first futon manufacturer. John Oswalt has been owner and
operator since 1983. Oswalt's father began the business
18 years prior and developed the tri-fold design being sold
today.
Oswalt’s futons are made of high-density polyurethane
foam. They are mildew-free, mold-free, non-allergenic, odorless
and firm for proper back support and comfortable sleep.
The futons are covered with machine-washable, microfiber
fabrics in the latest, popular designs. Covers have zippers
for easy removal.
Oswalt's
Futons are built to last, made of top-quality materials
and extra heavy-duty construction. They come in twin or
full sizes to fit almost any vehicle or room. A twin and
double together make a queen and two doubles make a king.
Like the product, prices haven’t changed. Twins are
$70 and doubles are $90. Quantity discounts are available.
During the week, John Oswalt is busy as a wholesaler, distributing
to major retail outlets all over the West coast. An Army
veteran, his military ties helped him land a Navy Exchange
account which sees his futons distributed all over the world,
from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to Naples, Italy. The arrangement
has helped the business blossom into a world-class operation.
When you’re ready to furnish that new place, fit
the back of your truck or van with a bed, or simply wish
to prepare yourself for unexpected company, turn to West
Coast Import & Manufacturing at Kobey's every weekend.
Oswalt has sold at Kobey's for more than 20 years.
