Elango's
House of Music:
A Rock-n-Roll Paradise of Low Prices

Elango Sem surrounded by his guitars at Kobey's. |
Elango Sem’s rock bottom prices on guitars, band instruments and percussion are
music to the ears of local musicians young and old. When most new classical guitars sell
for as low as $54.99 and violins for $99, even the beginner is compelled to invest on their
own means of musical expression.
Elango moved his wholesale operation from Manhattan, N.Y. to San
Diego in 2001 but his education in the school of rock began much
earlier.
He began his music career in India 20 years ago as an apprentice
to a local guitar maker whose fine-crafted instruments were exported
worldwide. As his guitar making skills grew, so did his desire to
travel and learn. His quest for knowledge took him to different countries,
where he made a living working with musicians by implementing his
craft while learning as much as he could about the industry.

He invested in the craft after moving to the East Coast by becoming
a wholesaler, then a retailer, of imported instruments made overseas,
mostly in Asia. These are the same high-quality hard wood pieces
sold by name brand manufacturers, except without the well-known labels.
At his current Kobey’s location, Elango’s House Of Music
offers all kinds of items including acoustic, electric and bass guitars,
string instruments, amps, drum sets, recorders, school band and orchestra
instruments, as well as exotic musical instruments from around the
world. If you don’t see it, ask for it. Nothing is out of reach
of Elango’s musical fingers.
